Pet Name Tags UK

There are millions of dogs and cats living in homes in the UK with, regrettably, a significant number going missing each year. Unfortunately, some of these will never be returned to their rightful owners for a variety of reasons.

One of these reasons is that it is estimated that as many as 40% of pets are neither chipped or do not have a name tag on their collar which, in the case of dogs, is a legal requirement under the Control of Dogs Order 1992. This act states that pet name tags must have, at least, the name and address of the owner on them.

Bearing in mind that your pet is no doubt looked on as an important member of your family who is dearly loved and cared for by you, your partner and the children, can you imagine the amount of distress and heartache such a loss would cause even if it were missing for only a few hours? However, by making sure that your cat or dog doesn’t leave the house without a quality pet name tag on, you will reduce the possibility of them going missing.

As well as having your name and address on the pet identification tag that is then attached to the collar, you should also consider having your contact number engraved on it. In doing so, this will speed up the process of you being contacted by the person that finds your pet, who may either telephone you direct or take your animal to your local authority dog warden who will contact you by phone, thus reducing the period that your pet is missing.

This may come as a surprise to you but dogs, in particular, can easily go missing whilst being taken for a walk. Initially, you may keep your dog on its lead but once you get to the park or a field you, quite naturally, want to let it of its lead to run around for a time. Although many dogs are well trained to return to your call or whistle there are many that are not.

This is when you are most likely to expose your canine creature to being lost as your dog may disappear into bushes following the scent of the likes of rabbits and foxes and could follow that scent for hundreds of yards in a very short period of time. Also, a significant percentage of dogs in such situations have been known to loose either their collar or pet identification tag due, perhaps, to the collar being loose fitting or the pet tag being of inferior quality.

Therefore, when selecting a company to make your pet name tag it is important that you choose one that has a good reputation for engraving pet name tags to the highest standard using quality material that will last for many years. As with most things in life, it is often better to pay that little bit extra for a superior quality product. Surely your pet deserves that.
